With the exploration and innovation of company people, gradually formed four major advantageous products: steel plate, steel pipe, stainless steel, special steel.
AISI 4130 alloy steel is a medium carbon, low alloy steel in ASTM A29 standard. ASTM 4140 steel is also commonly referred to as a chromoly steel, or chrome moly steel, containing nominally 0.28-0.33% Carbon, 0.8-1.1% Chromium and 0.15-0.25% Molybdenum.
SAE-AISI 4130 steel is an alloy steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. 4130 is the designation in both the SAE and AISI systems for this material. G41300 is the UNS number. The properties of SAE-AISI 4130 steel include four common variations. This page shows summary ranges across all of them.
The mechanical specifications of AISI 4130 steel are standard at 25 degrees Celsius. The density of the material must be between 7700 and 8030 kg per cubic meter while the Poisson ratio must be between 0.27 and 0.30. The elastic modulus ranges between 190 and 210 while the tensile strength and yield strength are 560.5 and 360.6 respectively.
AISI 4140 alloy steel is annealed at 872C (1600F) followed by slowly cooling in the furnace. Tempering. AISI 4140 alloy steel can be tempered at 205 to 649C (400 to 1200F) depending upon the desired hardness level. The hardness of the steel can be increased if it has a lower tempering temperature.
Using the 4130-alloy steel with the thinner wall thickness provides a 35% weight savings over the thicker mild steel. Both have comparable torsional rigidity. While all of the material is round tubing, its interesting to see how the diameter, wall thickness, material and welding method all influence its ultimate performance.
young's modulus of steel Young's modulus of steel at room temperature is typically between 190 GPa (27500 ksi) and 215 GPa (31200 ksi). Young's modulus of carbon steels (mild, medium and high), alloy steels, stainless steels and tool steels are given in the following table in GPA and ksi.
Modulus of Elasticity: 205 GPa: 29700 ksi Typical for steel: Bulk Modulus: 140 GPa: 20300 ksi Typical for steel: Poisson's Ratio: 0.29: 0.29 Calculated: Machinability: 70 %: 70 % annealed and cold drawn. The modulus of rigidity depends on the material. For example, the modulus of rigidity for cast steel is approximately 11 x 106 psi (or 78 GPa), the modulus of rigidity of concrete is 3 x 106 psi (or 21 GPa), and the modulus of rigidity of aluminum is approximately 4 x 106 psi (or 28 GPa).
Titanium Grade 5 has good tensile properties at ambient temperature and a useful creep resistance up to 300C (570F). Resistance to fatigue and crack propagation is excellent. Like most titanium alloys, Grade 5 has outstanding resistance to corrosion in most natural and many industrial process environments.
AISI 4130 steel can be annealed at 843C (1550F) followed by air cooling at 482C (900F). Tempering. Tempering of AISI 4130 steel can be performed at 399 to 566C (750 to 1050F), depending on the desired strength level. Hardening. Hardening of AISI 4130 steel can be done with cold working or heat treatment.

The shear modulus is one of several quantities for measuring the stiffness of materials. All of them arise in the generalized Hooke's law: . Young's modulus E describes the material's strain response to uniaxial stress in the direction of this stress (like pulling on the ends of a wire or putting a weight on top of a column, with the wire getting longer and the column losing height),

AISI 1018 Mild/Low Carbon Steel AISI 1018 mild/low carbon steel has excellent weldability and produces a uniform and harder case and it is considered as the best steel for carburized parts. AISI 1018 mild/low carbon steel offers a good balance of toughness, strength and ductility. Provided with higher mechanical properties,
4130 Chromoly vs. Reynolds 853 Steel. Discussion in 'Recumbent bicycles' started by Bobinator, Aug 3, 2003. 4130 steel modulus of rigidity 4130 Cr-Mo steel is used frequently because it is an old well-characterized alloy. It's commonly 4130 steel modulus of rigidity Steel and Aluminum have almost identical modulus to weight ratios. Steel's is pretty constant.
As the young's Modulus (E) is the measure of stiffness, for steel the Young's modulus considered is 2 x 10 5 MPa, what will be the change in value if the material is heat treated for example 4130 steel modulus of rigidity
Modulus of Rigidity - Shear Modulus (Modulus of Rigidity) is the elasticity coefficient for shearing or torsion force Polyester - Chemical Resistance - Chemical resistance of Polyester to products like Acetic acid, Diesel oil and others
Compare this with 2024-T3 Aluminum, which has a modulus of only 10 msi and ultimate tensile strength of 65 ksi, and 4130 Steel, which has a modulus of 30 msi and ultimate tensile strength of 125 ksi. As an example, a plain-weave carbon fiber reinforced laminate has an elastic modulus of approximately 6 msi and a volumetric density of about 83 4130 steel modulus of rigidity
I have D=15mm ARB with ~ 100 lb/in stiffness, made of 4130 steel. I would like to make a new 20-25% stiffer bar. I'd like to keep all the dimensions the same, if possible. Would changing to a different steel grade with higher Modulus of Rigidity change the stiffness enough?
The modulus of elasticity determines how far the material will flex under a given load (ie: rubber low modulus, glass high modulus). The modulus for steel is 30,000,000 PSI Different alloys of steel in different conditions of heat tread and work hardening do however have different strengths.
Shear strengths are not typically quoted for stainless steels because they are too low to have engineering value. 4130 alloy steel has shear modulus around 11,000 ksi, lower than those for the 4130 steel modulus of rigidity
